The 100ltr water wheelbarrow is an idea born in 2012 out of experiencing daily challenges of collecting water from communal taps. This has mostly affected thousands and thousands of women and children across the globe.
The question was if this is a challenge to male figures what more on women and children who travel lots and lots of kilometers to get water and headload while risking spinal cord affection.
Thabo and Vuyo grew up together and have had a strong bond from childhood and both experienced the challenges of collecting water. The daily use of a builder’s wheelbarrow to carry a number of 25ltr jerry cans with the risk of losing water in the process inspired the birth of the water wheelbarrow that will ensure that no drop of water can be lost once a product is designed to a closed tank.
Fast forward 2015 the department of water and sanitation (DWS) in South Africa rolled out the product to municipalities across South Africa until 2016. The idea was to give the municipalities a taste of the product and once they have enough money on their budget they will then buy for the communities.
The Water Wheelbarrow is one product that is set to put South Africa on the global map because it can be exported and find relevance in the entire African continent since water struggle is a global challenge not only a South African challenge.
